AIMSweb Data Security Incident

Notice to Parents

On August 28, we received confirmation that our District is among the 13,000 schools and colleges across the country – including several N.H. districts – who were affected by a 2018 data security incident in Pearson’s AIMSweb 1.0 software. Your child’s name and state/district identification number may have been part of the incident.

The Concord School District has been using AIMSweb 1.0 software since its launch in 2004 as an assessment tool of readiness, growth and progression of skills in the area of reading.

On July 31, 2019, Pearson announced that a data security incident occurred in its AIMSweb 1.0 software in November 2018; Pearson learned of the incident in March 2019. Some of our students enrolled between 2004 and 2019 have had their information compromised as a result of this incident, specifically student names and either SASID (state assigned student identifier) or PowerSchool ID.  For teachers, the information that was compromised was not considered confidential and included first and last name, and grade level.

It is our plan to directly notify the families of all currently enrolled students about this data security incident. As you know, we take seriously our obligation to protect the personal identifying information of our students, staff and families. We maintain a high standard of internal digital security and we limit the data we provide to vendors to what is essentially required to fulfill a critical function.

Pearson is offering complimentary credit monitoring services from Experian for affected individuals. While Pearson does not have any evidence that this information has been misused, Pearson is providing this option for those who wish to enroll as a precautionary measure.  To learn more about this option, please call 866-883-3309 or email

Concord School District is not using the AIMSweb 1.0 platform beginning this school year. We are using aimswebPlus, which is a newer version of the product, and which we are informed by Pearson is unaffected by this incident. The company has worked with cybersecurity experts to fix the vulnerability in their software moving forward.
