Wellness Committee Minutes - January 2025

January 6, 2025

  • The group had a discussion on if we can say “No outside food brought in for parties”.  The policy won’t be changed. Language will be included in student handbooks.
    • Rewards can be included in student IEP’s.
    • There was a question regarding mints and gum.
  • Fern mentioned therapist services being available to staff members.
    • This started at CMS but no one attended.
  • Alison Casco mentioned the value of central office visiting classrooms and the importance of them understanding that this helps staff feel recognized.
  • Kristen Curren mentioned that RMS started advisories so students wouldn’t feel lost.  She suggested positive ways that similar supports could be offered to staff.
  • Erin Stewart shared that communications can be improved to ensure all groups of employees are included.
  • Jennie mentioned that MBS did a Reflective Practice where staff met in small groups once a month. This was through Trauma Informed Schools.
  • A comment was made that we need to determine what the mission of the Wellness Committee is.
  • Jennie talked about the district attendance crusade.
  • Leslie mentioned we could have a brief staff survey with 5 questions, including an open ended question.

Wellness Committee members could go to the schools to explain the surveys.

  • The committee broke up into three groups:
  1. Staff Surveys
  2. Student Handbooks
  3. Non-food Party Alternatives
  • Stacey made a motion to accept the minutes from the December 2, 2024 meeting. Leslie seconded the motion.
