Wellness Committee Minutes - May 2025

Discussion

  • Stacey made motion to accept minutes from April 7th meeting. Jennie seconded.  

Recess Temps 

  • Fern said she hadn’t had a chance to talk to Anthony Blinn, Abbot Downing Principal, about recess temps.  
  • Bevan asked what the rule was on this.  
  • There was a discussion on temperature and what tool would schools use for accurate temperature.  
  • Fern said the north country uses 10 degrees and southern area of the state uses 20 degrees.  

Introductions 

Bevan and Quinci introduced themselves to each other.  

Newsletters for staff for SY2025-26. 

  • Hailey mentioned Wellness Wednesdays previously at RMS. Fern said this was championed by a staff member, Janine Roberts, who has since moved to CHS.  
  • Allison mentioned using Canva to create newsletters.  
  • Allison mentioned CHS provides breakfasts to staff once a month and things like this should be included in the newsletter.  
  • Stacey mentioned staff appreciation activities are also offered at CMS.  
  • It was agreed upon that we do a quarterly newsletter. 
  • Here are some topics to consider: 
  1. Offering a coupon 
  2. Adding a symbol for reader’s to find 
  3. Highlight celebrations, call it “Wellness in Action” 
  4. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) 
  5. Financial planning resources 
  6. Walking competition by school 
  7. Mental health section, possibly use Trauma Informed, Project Grow 
  8. Breathing techniques 
  9. Self wellness quiz, link a gift card, QR code 
  10. Fun fact/joke 
  11. Coordinate our info with Melissa Witherspoon’s resources 
  12. Committee members who use resources can report in newsletter 
  • Jennie mentioned listing Wellness Committee members in first newsletter.  

 

Other 

  • Fern mentioned there was a serious problem with staff attendance in the district.  
  • Bevan mentioned there is a big problem at CHS with not having qualified substitutes in place.  
  • Fern mentioned that Liz would like to bring a Hannaford rep to one of our meetings next year to talk about their wellness program.   
  • Hailey mentioned looking at the UNH Cooperative Extension resources.  
  • Fern mentioned promoting SNAP awareness.
